Capoeira for Kids
Classes are outside on occasion.
Capoeira provides physical fitness for children and is intended to be a no- to low-contact martial art that helps children with gross motor planning and gross motor skills. As a martial art, children learn discipline, confidence and self control. Unlike other martial arts, the music and instruments of capoeira provide a multi-sensory experience for children.
Children will also learn maculele (a dance done hitting sticks against your partner’s sticks), samba, capoeira instruments, and Portuguese through this fun, interactive class.
Typically youth will train in the class corresponding to their age to advance through the cord system; in some instances a younger child may be placed in the advanced group. Please call to inquire regarding proper placement for youth older than 11.
CAREGIVERS MAY TRAIN FREE OF CHARGE IN ADULT CLASSES WITH A CHILD REGISTERED IN YOUTH CLASSES.

Fall youth capoeira classes are offered as Memberships with 8 or 10 weeks of classes including two weeks of make up classes. In the summer, class packs are available.
Participants must pre-register for a session. Students new to the group may take their first class at no charge if they wish to try out the class. Please register here a Youth Trial class.

A class may be cancelled if there is insufficient enrollment; the schedule may change if necessary.
Children must be in Barro Vermelho’s official uniform by the second class, which may be purchased at the academy or on line in the Square Market.
Throughout the session, we may schedule special youth capoeira events to encourage formal capoeira play with their peers and adult capoeiristas in some cases.
Note regarding drop off: Caregivers may drop off their children and pick them up at the end of class. Caregivers may observe outdoor classes from a far away distance if they choose to remain on site; indoor classes may be observed through the doors and windows.

Adults and Teens
Our capoeira classes are open to all--whether you are just figuring how to pronounce ca-po-AY-ra or have been training for some time.
No prior experience is necessary. Beginners should wear loose fitting clothing and should be barefoot or, if necessary, use light footwear. No uniform is required the first month for beginners. Students training with Capoeira Barro Vermelho for more than one month should be in full Capoeira Barro Vermelho uniform. They may be purchased on line or in person at the Brazilian-American Cultural Center.
*Advanced capoeiristas should wear the traditional capoeira regional uniform.

Beginners: Mondays & Wednesdays, 6:30-7:15 pm
All Levels: Tuesdays 6:30/6:45-8:00 pm, Saturdays 11:15 am-12:45 pm
Advanced: Thursdays 6:30-8:00 pm
